Egg, as he is fondly known by his family and friends, has an interesting and inspiring story.  Our beautiful, half Accoyo female, Arabesque, became deathly ill while beginning her third trimester of pregnancy with Egg in 2004.  This was during a drought in our area (and all over the country.)  We had purchased some fabulous hay from another state that the girls were just wild about but, it turns out, there was a small number of poisonous Blister Beetles in the hay.  Amazingly, we didn't lose anyone.  Bessie recovered, surprisingly, without aborting, but we waited for her due date with some anxiety. 

The day came and Egg, her first cria, arrived without a problem, but he couldn't stand, his feet and toenails were a purplish-black, and it didn't end there.  He had difficulty swallowing because his throat was also blistered.  Euthanasia seemed to be the kindest thing we could do but Egg just refused to give up! 

We, and Egg, had many obstacles too lengthy to write about here but his tenacity, courage and stoicism in the face of great hardship has stayed with us.  Egg is grown now, big, happy, healthy and the boss of his brat pack.  We are very proud to own him.  We attribute his great strength to his heart and his Hemmingway and Accoyo genetics.
