Dardan, alias "Bug" has been with us since Lanark dyas and is a permanant member of our herd.  He comes when he is called, will round up errant alpacas, stands stock-still for haltering, leads like a dog, and is our Anatolian Shepherd's (livestock guardian's) absolute favorite alpaca.   They chase each other around every dusk after dinner and play "king of the hill" on the gravel pile.

Bug has a real job, however, we subcontract him out (this is a free service for Little Wing drive-by breedings) for behavior testing, aka "teasing" females who have recently been bred.  This has long been a standard procedure here on the farm, in conjunction with blood draws for progesterone levels until ultrasound time (at 30 days.)  We attribute our great success rate with proven and maiden females to this careful breeding followup routine.

Although gelded, Bug has a keen eye for "receptive" ladies, but is never aggressive - very useful for new breeders or small farms, who may not own a stud male, making our drive-by breedings much more efficient.
